    Helping your students apply to the Psychology major at UC Berkeley

    Changes in the prerequisites for the Psychology major have created some confusion. Students should complete ALL of the major prerequisites for the major as listed on ASSIST to be most competitive.  Students who are missing 1-3 prerequisites may be admitted to the University but will still need to petition to declare the major no later than their first semester. Political Science courses have been reinstated as courses that can be taken to meet the Social Science requirement.

    During their first semester at UC Berkeley, transfer students are guaranteed admission to the Psychology major if they fulfill all of the following criteria:

    1. Earn a 3.2 GPA in the prerequisites
    2. Complete all of the prerequisites by the end of of their first semester at UC Berkeley
    3. Submit the online application during their first semester while completing the last prerequisite requirements

    Student Veterans

    The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Cal Veteran Services Center hosted a number of webinars in late summer and early fall to assist U.S. military personnel and veterans in understanding our admissions process, how to apply to UC Berkeley, and how to become a stronger applicant in a selective admissions process, including:

    • Writing Effective Responses to Personal Insight Questions
    • Applying to the College of Chemistry
    • Applying to the College of Natural Resources
    • Applying to the Haas School of Business
    • Applying to the College of Environmental Design
    • Applying to the College of Engineering
    • Applying to the College of Letters and Science

    2) Connect with a CED student. We invite prospective students to meet with a CED admissions ambassador. Current undergraduates in CED can speak about the student experience in CED and at UC Berkeley.

    3) Helpful CED resources for prospective students: (This website also offers options for students to complete prerequisites who attend schools that do not have articulated courses, and those students that are not in the immediate Bay Area)

      Personal Insight Questions for Transfer Applicants

      As a vital part of your application, the personal insight questions—consisting of responses to four of eight questions—is reviewed by both the Admissions and the Scholarship Offices. At Berkeley we use the Personal Insight Question Responses to:

      • Discover and evaluate distinctions among applicants whose academic records are often very similar;
      • Gain insight into your level of academic, personal and extracurricular achievement;
      • Provide us with information that may not be evident in other parts of the application.

      Please join us to learn more about why the Personal Insight Question Responses are important to UC Berkeley Transfer application readers.
