How were students selected to submit the optional recorded video interviews?
International students who completed high school outside of the U.S. were selected. Selection was not based on major, GPA, or any other specific criteria in the application.
How will the video be submitted?
All interviews will be conducted by an external company called InitialView. There is a fee associated with these interviews.
Is there a cost for the recorded video interview?
Yes, the fee, which is set by InitialView, is $220.
Is there a fee waiver or financial assistance available to cover the cost of the interview?
UC Berkeley is not able to provide any financial assistance to cover the cost of the interview. In limited situations, InitialView will provide a fee waiver if the student can demonstrate that the cost of the interview will be an undue financial hardship. Please contact InitivalView directly to inquire.
Will the application of a student who does not submit the interview still be read? Will they be at a disadvantage?
UC Berkeley remains committed to making sure that all transfer applications are thoroughly and thoughtfully read, with or without an interview. Students without an interview will not be at a disadvantage.
What is the deadline for submission of the interview?
Transfer applicants must complete the interview by 11:59pm (PST) on Saturday, April 1, 2017.
Are other UC campuses also providing the option to submit a video interview?
This opportunity to submit an interview and notification of this opportunity came from UC Berkeley, completely independent from any other University of California campus. While other UC campuses may request additional or supplemental information, this opportunity is only related to the student's application to UC Berkeley.
